ReturnMK have launched an outreach programme to stop and prevent knife crime within Milton Keynes.

Did you know that Milton Keynes has one of the highest rates of knife crime in the UK; higher than some boroughs in London?

Violent crime, particularly crime involving knives and weapons, can be fatal for victims and has a huge impact on families and wider communities. The only way this stops is if we all stand together and search to find solutions. This is one of the reasons why we have started our outreach programme.

As recent as February 2022, we saw yet another murder related to knife crime in Milton Keynes. One is too many, and these numbers are rising weekly. Milton Keynes is also continuing to grow in population, and one day will become a city. It’s time to re-engage with our youth and stop these needless deaths.

What are the solutions?

Community Engagement

We want to embrace the community, and every person within it. Once upon a time there was something known as “Neighbourhood Watch”; this still exists. The only way to resolve and prevent knife crime is by engaging with the community as a whole. We all need to talk and find a solution to stop postcode gangs and young people losing their lives to knifes.

Create Opportunities

At ReturnMK we create opportunities for young adults to express themselves. These channels include creative avenues such as video and music production, as well as developing foundation skills to proceed into work, or further education. We have developed a connection to the youth of today which local authorities don’t have. We allow for young adults to express themselves in an exciting but safe and secure environment.

Weapon Surrender

Save a life by binning a knife. You may have heard of amnesty bins? An amnesty bin is a place where you can safely dispose of a knife, blade or other weapon. Once deposited in the bin then it will be secure until it is removed by professionals. We are proposing anonymous amnesty bins to be setup centrally in Milton Keynes. To be effective we feel they need to be in key locations that are accessible.
